Valentine’s Day, also known as Valentine’s Day, is celebrated on February 14 of each year. It is celebrated in many countries of the world.
Valentine’s Day began as a liturgical celebration of one or more early Christian saints called Valentino. Very few facts about Saint Valentine are known. He was a priest in Rome who was martyred around the year 269 AD and buried in Via Flaminia (the road that leads from Rome over the mountains of the Apennines). The most popular martyrology states that he was a priest near Rome about 270 AD, a time when the church was suffering a great persecution. His ministry was to help Christians escape this persecution and provide them with the sacraments, such as marriage. The Roman Emperor Claudius II supposedly forbade marriages of soldiers to grow his army, believing that married men were not good soldiers.
The contemporary Valentine’s Day is connected mainly with romantic love. The modern customs of Valentine were developed at the beginning of modern England and extended in the nineteenth century. Customs include sending cards, flowers, chocolates to loved ones. Valentine’s paper cards became so popular in England in the early nineteenth century that they were assembled in factories.
